Kombucha Tea recipe and Bottling Method

Happy Wednesday! I have definitely been dormant this past week due to my crazy and busy schedule. I'm leaving for Oregon tomorrow and I'm excited but I still have to pack! I can't wait to run on all the trails, eat great food, and go on a few college visits! To wrap it all up, I'm STOKED!

Between all of my preparation to go to Oregon, I've found some time to bottle my first Kombucha batch with my new Scoby! I'm sad that I can't take my Scoby to Oregon with me but, I'll start a new batch so that when I come back, I'll have some fresh Kombucha to drink. Anyways, let's dive into my Kombucha recipe and how to bottle your final product!

Kombucha Tea Recipe

Ingredients:
-3 1/2 quart of water (12 cups)
-1 cup of white sugar
-4 bags of green, black, or oolong tea
- 1 Kombucha Scoby (How to Grow your own Kombucha Scoby here)
- 1 1/2 cups of starter tea (kombucha tea from another batch or bottled Kombucha)

Instructions:
1. Bring your 12 cups of water to a boil and add 1 cup of sugar.
2. Stir until the sugar dissolves and turn your stove off.
3. Take the pot off the stove, add your 4 tea bags and let steep.
4. Wait until the Sugared tea has come to room temperature (you can put it in an ice bath, Stay patient!)
5. Take your sugared tea and pour all of it into a large jar or glass bowl.
6. Carefully place your scoby inside the jar and pour in your starter tea.
7. Cover with a cheesecloth or papertowel and secure with a rubberband.
8. Leave in a dark place for about 7 days.

How to Bottle Kombucha Tea

Things you need:
 -About 4-5 Glass Bottles (uncolored)
- Ladle
-Vinegar
-Kombucha Tea batch
-Funnel

Instructions:
1. Take your 4-5 glass bottles and fill with a small amount of vinegar then fill with water and rinse out. This will kill any germs and bacteria in the bottles.
2. Take your batch of Kombucha and carefully take your Scoby out with your hands. Place in another jar.
3. Taking your ladle, measure our 2 cups of the tea and pour into the jar with your Scoby. Cover with a cloth and secure with a rubberband. Store your Scoby in a dark place. (Scoby Hotel)
4. Fill each bottle by ladling your Kombucha tea through your funnel. Fill each bottle 1 inch from the top because it will be fizzy.
5. After you have filled all of your bottles, you can refrigerate and drink or if you would like a more fizzy taste, you can leave out for 2-3 days until it's like soda! It tastes awesome!

I hope that you can start your own Kombucha batch because it's so inexpensive and awesome!
