Hello and welcome to High Raw Vegan Teen.

Let me introduce myself! My name is Kai, three words, very short, very simple, but very fitting. I am currently a junior in high school and I live in the beautiful land of Hawai'i. Between school, sports (cross country, track, sporadic basketball, swimming), and extra curriculars, I find the time to delve into the world of sustainability, health, and wellness. It's something I'm very passionate about and It will always be with me in life. I intend to help others when I'm older, whether through my profession or through interaction, to become a healthier and happier individual. I believe that no one is perfect and we can all help each other; health is a great pathway to accomplish this.

Health can be defined as many different things as it is something universal. I believe it is a huge realm of mental clarity, nourishment, and activity. Some people think that health just has to do with what you are eating but I believe that it's also a journey in your mind. This blog is dedicated to these ideals and I try to strive for that everyday. I try to surround myself with good vibes and do the things that won't hurt me. That is why I surround myself with great food that is fresh, nourishing, and beautiful as well as great activities (running, swimming, basketball, etc.), and great people that I meet along the way! This blog will encompass all of that as I will share my fun-filled random recipes that are delicious and easy to make. As a teenager and athlete who is in vigorous classes at school, I have barely any time to make my food so these recipes are easy and fast. They are also nutritious, vegan, and clean. It is difficult to accomplish this lifestyle but I believe that if there is a will, there is a way.

What does HIGH RAW mean?
I am classified as a vegan, which means I eat no animal products what so ever. I love animals and I believe that they are not subordinate to me. They are amazing creatures on this earth that know way more about the environment than we do as humans. They are incredibly intelligent, and are so in touch with the world, something that humans try to strive for everyday. With these thoughts, I am vegan because I admire animals, so why would I want to kill them? I also don't eat animals for the nutritional benefits of a plant based diet. I don't have to deal with the added hormones in certain animals, mercury poisoning from fish, excessive protein, cholestrol, saturated fats etc. I have a value system where I always think about the foods I am eating based on nutrient density. Would I rather eat a slab of steak with iron and protein, or kale/spinach/seaweed which are more dense in protein, iron, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals? I think kale/spinach/seaweed is the more logical choice. Therefore, I know there is a good reason for what I am eating and I need to eat a lot of it.
HIGH RAW means that most of the things I eat are not cooked above 118 degrees farenheit. I knew about the raw food movement before I became a full blown vegan but I didn't think much of it when I started being a vegan. I realized while I was eating fully vegan that most of the foods I ate were raw! Therefore, I eat fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds with a little bit of cooked foods like taro, sweet potato, and soups. For me personally, this lifestyle has helped me in many ways and I would love to share recipes and stories with you as well as listen to the recipes and stories you may have as well! No, being a high raw vegan is not a diet, it is a lifestyle. It is not restricting, it is indulging in whole foods that are rich in vitamins. It is not boring, it is testing your creativity and potential to being innovative with food and life :)
